Arizona Foundation Solutions: A Case Study Showcase
The age-old adage “The proof is in the pudding” is especially true when it comes to residential and commercial foundation repair in Arizona. With that fact in mind, have a look at a few of our old case studies from previous projects completed by Arizona Foundation Solutions.
Apache Trail Retaining Wall Stabilization in AZ
Challenge:
The FHWA obtained a repair for the historical Apache Trail near Apache Junction, AZ. This repair called for, among other things, compaction grouting below the existing dirt road to harden soils behind numerous stacked stone retaining walls. The job also called for Polyurethane Resin Injection behind a rock face to prevent rock fall hazards.
The area to be compaction grouted was a section of land along a dirt road that measured 8′ – 12′ wide throughout. This particular road had two opposing rock faces, complicating access. To further convolute the project, the road needed to be open to traffic by a specific date, not allowing much time for job completion. The stone retaining walls were built around 1920 and needed to remain a historic symbol, so constant monitoring needed to be performed to guarantee no damage was done to the walls.
Solution:
Arizona Foundation Solutions compaction grouted at depths up to 15′ below grade a total of 180 CY of grout to re-stabilize the soils behind the retaining walls. Arizona Foundation Solutions also performed 1,500 lbs of PUR injection to strengthen a loosened rock face.
Arizona Foundation Solutions Helps Save Residence $25,000!
Challenge:
We were called to a home with numerous levels suffering from slab cracks, as well as damaged tiles on the main floor. The client selected a geotechnical professional who reported that the house was suffering from slab settlement at the perimeter of the main floor and advised compaction grouting around the perimeter of the foundation of the home.
If the structural analysis was right, this would be around a $30,000 grouting job due to higher floor level readings on the main level. But there was no baseboard separation or various other factors to suggest slab settlement.
Solution:
Arizona Foundation Solutions conducted our own inspection of the home and came to the conclusion that the home was suffering from floor slab heave in the center, not slab settlement around the perimeter as the foundation repair professional had told the homeowner. The geotechnical professional re-inspected the property after Arizona Foundation Solutions’ assessment, agreed with the new evaluation, and revised his original report accordingly.
We had the opportunity to offer the customer a $5,000 remedy to his heave problem with our MoistureLevel control system from Arizona Foundation Solutions. If the client would have acted upon the structural diagnosis, he would have spent around $30,000 with no effective solution to their foundation heave.
Arizona Foundation Solutions is the leading contractor for underpinning in the state of Arizona for a number of years now; have helped thousands stabilize and raise their sunken foundations. However, there are times when there are structures that need to be stabilized and or lifted, and helical piers are not a sensible option because the structure is not capable of the point stresses that are involved with piering. By driving an injection pipe deep below the surface and then pumping various sorts of grout, the soil itself can be stabilized and even be made stiffer and denser.
