Stem Wall Failure Symptoms: Flaking paint
Flaking paint is one of the first signs of stem wall failure. Flaking paint can happen for a high variety of reasons. The first reason is over-exposure to sun, heat, and moisture. But the main reason is stem wall failure; when concrete becomes more acidic, the paint on the surface starts to decay and eventually starts to flake.
Stem Wall Failure Symptoms: Vertical Cracks

Stem Wall Failure Symptoms: Spalling Concrete
Spalling concrete is the last but the worst of all the stem wall failure symptoms. The reason for that is because by the time this symptom becomes visible, it is already too late. When there is spalling concrete, it means most of the stem wall, including the tie-down strap and the rebar.

Stem Wall Repair Process: Replacing Tie-down Straps
This is one example of what we replace the galvanized tie-down straps for. Unlike the regular tie-down straps, these polypropylene loop strips are anti-rust production because they're not made of any type of metal. On the contrary, these strings are made of long-lasting synthetic material.
Polypropylene Loop Strings Close-up
Here is a close-up of the polypropylene loop strings. As you can see, the strips are attached to the wall to secure the wall and the rebar.
